Mary K has a 20+ year background in marketing, but she has been an unpredictable and passionate artist for much of her life. She served as the Marketing Manager for Snake River Seed Cooperative from 2001 through 2024, joining the Board of Directors in 2023. As a pandemic-era gardener, Mary K is somewhat obsessed with food security and the peace-creating potential that gardens can offer. She believes in the transformative power of school and community gardens to foster collaboration and resilience.
Born and raised in Boise and shaped by the Pacific Northwest, Mary K honed her skills through volunteering and professional opportunities. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on Communications from The Evergreen State College, where she designed and implemented independent learning projects involving curriculum development, marketing strategies, and cross-disciplinary collaborations. She received the Noosphere Award from the Evergreen State College Foundation in 2014.
Mary K’s career began in commercial arts in the Seattle area, where she worked as a packaging graphics designer for a global retailer for nine years. Within the first two years of this role, she began her freelance career, serving small business development. Throughout her career, Mary K has been involved in community-building projects and in-house assignments with multiple stakeholders and many moving parts, which continue to influence her art and design work.
She values building meaningful community partnerships and relationships with organizations, businesses, individuals, and institutions that embody compassion and care. She is particularly interested in collaborating with those who share her commitment to sustainability, resilience, and generational thinking. Her work often resonates with people in related fields who seek innovative ways to advance their ideas.
As an artist, marketer, and multimedia designer, Mary K continues to merge her professional expertise with her creative passion, contributing to projects that make a lasting impact on communities and the environment.
