Cooperative Gardens 2020 Report
A Plot to Save the World
I am a Commissioner with the Cooperative Gardens Commission (CGC), joining early on in April, at about the same time the Treasure Valley Community Gardens Cooperative was forming. CGC was formed in 2020 as a direct response to the COVID pandemic with the express goals of increasing community food production, resource-sharing, and helping to create food sovereignty especially in communities that were struggling before the pandemic. Initially, I joined the Media, Design & Messaging Working Group and became the facilitator for the Anti-Oppression and Allyship Working Group by late spring.
In 2020, CGC has provided free seeds to an estimated 12,000 gardens via 257 local seed hubs in 41 states. Over the course of 2021, we distributed seeds to 300 seed hubs.
This report aims to detail where CGC has been, where we are going, and how you can get involved. You can get in touch with us at: CooperativeGardens@gmail.com
As part of our cooperative work, I carried the established branding developed by Sarah Medina throughout the report and collateral online content.
Several Commissioners helped to gather dispatches from our working groups, and reports back from the seed hubs.
As part of our fundraising efforts, I developed a Patreon account and created collateral keepsakes so supporters have an additional something to showcase their support for CGC. This also included a couple of custom illustrations.
We are utilizing this report for all-channel content, press outreach, org-to-org networking, and as a comprehensive introduction to the work.
Please note: I am looking for work that allows me to put as much life energy into food system security as possible, from the ground up. There are intersections with pretty much every area of community building that I’m passionate about. This report is an ongoing demonstration of my ability and dedication to building a resilient community!
